Wireless Power

Our wireless power technology (alt. contactless energy transmission or inductive energy transmission) allows you to supply your applications wirelessly and to charge an internal battery too. No direct cables and plugs needed anymore! This makes wireless technology particularly suitable for manufacturers of portable devices.

Medical and industrial applications

Wireless power can be used in industrial & medical applications, whenever a connector cannot be used on the device, when its housing/case has to be completely enclosed. As a result of such a design, e.g. a medical device, is much easier and simpler to sterilize. These products can also be used for implantable applications that have to be connected to a power source and do not have any plugs/connectors to connect a normal cable.

The goal of choosing to use such a product is the simplicity of the user experience. When looking for the right solution, the efficiency of the device is always a critical point.

In the field of wireless power, we offer both Qi-compatible solutions and proprietary solutions.

We distinguish ourselves by offering proprietary solutions. These can be also provided with data transmission functionality.

Our proprietary solutions differentiate themselves as they can be designed with up to 500W power transmission while being capable of supporting data transmission.

To investigate deeper into wireless power and data transmission, its specifications and the range of possibilities, we provide background documents. They contain descriptions of inductive power supply technologies, advantages of proximity transmission and the reduction of field emissions through optimum spacing of transmitters and receivers. The principle of power transmission without electrical contact is already finding numerous applications in the field. One example is in so-called induction cook tops, where the energy is transmitted from the cooking zone to the bottom of the pot or pan in the form of an alternating electromagnetic field, then becoming actual heat. The cook top itself stays cool.

Instead of converting the transmitted energy into heat, what if it can provide loss free electrical current from one object to another – without the two even touching each other? At the core of RRC’s wireless power transmission system is a sophisticated coil construction and activation technique, which enables a highly efficient transfer. In contrast to traditional transformers, there are no closed cores for the coupling of the coils. Rather, the coils between the energy flows are separated from one another, allowing energy to be transmitted across gaps of millimeters, or even centimeters. The resulting construction – consisting of an independent transmitter and receiver modules – can be incorporated into a multitude of different devices where power cannot be supplied through external electrical contacts. The use of special ferrite materials leads to a more focused electromagnetic field, meaning an increase in efficiency and at the same time a reduced stray field.

The engineers at RRC have managed to substantially reduce energy loss, noticeably improving efficiency. In portable devices such as a cell phone or notebook computer, 90% of the energy sent from the coils reaches the receiver. Minimal loss of energy and optimal efficiency are the prerequisites for this technology’s success. Less energy loss means less unwanted heat, which in turn means less effort spent on managing temperatures in the end-use application. Lowered energy consumption through more efficient products is also synonymous with sustainability and climate protection.

This not only reflects the spirit of the times, but is also a key component of energy efficiency regulations in numerous industrial and economic areas. The wireless power transmission technologies developed by RRC facilitate compliance with the ecological design standards of worldwide standards, for example EnergyStar.

In the European Union, products are only allowed to enter the market when they conform to all the applicable EU standards. Devices with inductive power transmission must comply with the limit values defined in 1999/519/EC under European conformity assessment procedures. These values are the result of over 20,000 cooperative studies carried out by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) and the World Health Organization (WHO), for the prevention of negative impacts caused by electromagnetic fields. Such strict electro smog regulations are tirelessly adhered to by RRC, ensuring its innovative power transmission technologies pose no risk to the consumer.
